Why I Started Solo Mama Kitchen

I’ve always loved to cook.
A table full of good, simple food, shared with family, friends, love and laughter, is my happy place.

I also love to write.
A quiet way of making sense of things, and holding on to the small moments.

Solo Mama Kitchen grew quietly from those two loves: cooking and writing.
Simple food, simple words, and the everyday life happening in between.

Over the last few years, life has held its share of challenges — learning to navigate solo parenthood alongside some difficult health struggles. It hasn’t always been easy, and there have been slower, harder days along the way.

But out of the darkness came light.

Laughter in the kitchen.
Little hands helping to stir or sprinkle.
Cake bowls licked clean.
Kitchen discos aplenty while dinner cooks.

And the ordinary days that simply end with us fed, safe, and together — which is more than enough.

This blog became a quiet outlet during those tougher times. A small, steady place to create something positive. A way to focus on what nourishes, in every sense of the word.

Living with health challenges changed the way I think about food.
It made me want to eat better, to feel stronger, and take care of myself in the middle of busy, ordinary life — which isn’t always easy.

This space is where I share the simple, healthy(ish) meals and small ideas that help make that feel possible, in the hope it might make things a little easier for someone else, too.
